Accidents of disorder

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

I’ve just come across the following quote from last year (in a Guardian Unlimited piece on the Dixie Chicks dominating the grammys):

“The entire country may disagree with me, but I don’t understand the necessity for patriotism. About what? This land is our land? Why? You can like where you live and like your life, but as for loving the whole country… I don’t see why people care about patriotism.” - Natalie Maines

That’s pretty much my view too. I occasionally find myself getting swept up in England fever during world cup finals, but really it doesn’t matter. I’m more attached to the planet than a particular corner of it or the people leaving there. I’m reminded of lyrics from the BAD track Beyond the Pale:

Now there`s a rocker in Vladivostok
Got every side by Jerry Lee
But for accidents of disorder
That guy could well be me

E-Petitions

Monday, November 20th, 2006

Lurking on uk.comp.sys.mac (as a result of my regular “see what Luke is up to on Usenet” email from Google - yes it is spying, but nobody gets poisoned) I came across this post mentioning e-petitions and I’ve just signed my first one. I doubt it will have any effect, since TB seems intent on railroading this through, but I’ve got to try.
