Accidents of disorder

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

I’ve just come across the following quote from last year (in a Guardian Unlimited piece on the Dixie Chicks dominating the grammys):

“The entire country may disagree with me, but I don’t understand the necessity for patriotism. About what? This land is our land? Why? You can like where you live and like your life, but as for loving the whole country… I don’t see why people care about patriotism.” - Natalie Maines

That’s pretty much my view too. I occasionally find myself getting swept up in England fever during world cup finals, but really it doesn’t matter. I’m more attached to the planet than a particular corner of it or the people leaving there. I’m reminded of lyrics from the BAD track Beyond the Pale:

Now there`s a rocker in Vladivostok
Got every side by Jerry Lee
But for accidents of disorder
That guy could well be me

Wonderstuff and Ned’s Atomic Dustbin

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

Listening to Jane Gazzo’s Dream Ticket last night whilst (virtually) racing round Florence I was reminded how much I love the Wonderstuff, but I can no longer understand how I ever saw Ned’s Atomic Dustbin as anything other than a one track band (Kill Your Television).
